Are you looking for an opportunity to make things better for people in your community? We have vacancies for at least 4 new Trustees to join our Board. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of advice services in Somerset.
Citizens Advice Somerset was created in October 2023 following the merger of four long-standing local Citizens Advice Charities. Having completed the merger, we are looking forward from a position of strength and actively exploring opportunities to innovate and evolve.
Our Trustees bring a wealth of different expertise, skills and knowledge and most importantly of all are committed to meeting the advice needs of the people of Somerset. We welcome Trustees from all backgrounds and walks of life.
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
Requirements
You don’t need specific qualifications or skills but you will need:
- A local connection to Somerset and a commitment to developing the work of Citizens Advice Somerset for the benefit of the people of Somerset.
- To be able to take up the role of Trustee free from any conflict of interest.
- Be able to commit to upholding the Trustee Code of Conduct.
- Be confident using technology and cloud- based systems. Trustees are issued with a dedicated device and access papers via the organisation’s secure SharePoint area.
- Understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities as trustees:

- Be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own
- Have good listening, verbal and written communication skills
- Be able to exercise good independent judgement
- Have good numeracy skills to understand accounts with the support of the Treasurer
- Be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection
- Be willing to undertake training in your role
In a typical year our Trustees give around 60 hours of their time, preparing for and attending meetings, joining the Away Day and taking part in other relevant activities and training. The Board usually meets late afternoon (5.30pm) by Teams with provision for two in person meetings each year, similar for the subcommittee meetings and special projects. Our main office is in Taunton but we work across Somerset.
