What will I be doing?

A rare opportunity is available at Bowlish Infant School, which is a small school with 116 children from Reception to Year 2 who are catered for across 4 classes. Required from September or November 2026, we are seeking a compassionate, confident KS1 Class Teacher to permanently join our team. What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

Essential

  • Qualifications and Training
    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
    • Degree or equivalent qualification.
    • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
    • Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection requirements.
  • Experience
    • Experience of teaching within a KS1 class.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the Key Stage 1 curriculum.
    • Experience of planning, delivering and assessing high-quality lessons.
    • Experience of using assessment information to inform teaching and improve pupil progress.
    • Experience of creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Knowledge and Understanding
    • Strong understanding of the National Curriculum and statutory requirements for Key Stage 1.
    • Secure knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies.
    • Understanding of child development and the social, emotional and academic needs of young learners.
    • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and responsibilities.
    • Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion in education.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Excellent classroom management skills.
    • Ability to inspire, motivate and engage young learners.
    • Strong, proactive and professional communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues and external agencies.
    • Effective organisational and time-management skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
    • Competence in using technology to support teaching and learning.
    • Ability to meet the needs of all pupils.
    • Experience of effectively leading TAs and LSAs

    • Up-to-date training in phonics, early reading, and SEND provision.
  • Experience
    • Experience of teaching across both Year 1 and Year 2.
    • Experience of preparing pupils for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check and/or Key Stage 1 assessments.
    • Experience of working with pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Knowledge and Understanding
    • Knowledge of current educational research and evidence-informed practice.
    • Understanding of restorative approaches and positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to lead a curriculum area or school initiative.
  • Personal Qualities
    • Willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school, including extracurricular activities and school events.
    • Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
