What will I be doing?
We require an empathetic and resilient individual to join our dedicated team in playing a pivotal role in supporting young students, regardless of their circumstances, to raise their aspirations and reach their full potential. The successful candidate will provide essential academic, emotional and social support to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- You will build strong, trusting relationships with the students, offering them a safe space to discuss issues with either one-to-one or small group mentoring.
- You will act as an advocate for these students and provide them with a “voice” throughout the school community and beyond. You will help students set realistic goals, for both personal and academic development, identifying barriers to achievement and develop strategies to overcome these and to improve self-confidence to achieve the best possible outcomes.
- You will work closely with teachers, other school staff and families as part of a team striving to achieve the highest standard of educational achievement possible under the guidance of the Assistant Head for Inclusion.
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
- The ideal candidate will have experience of working with or caring for young people in the 11-16 range, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- A relevant qualification in education, social care or youth work would be an advantage. You will also have knowledge of safeguarding practices and challenges faced by students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.
- You will also work well under pressure and have excellent communication, time-management and organisational skills.
- You will possess a positive, compassionate and ‘can-do’ attitude and have a passion for supporting young people to develop their life goals.
This is a varied and rewarding opportunity to support young people, and to work with a great team in a successful secondary school. If you think you possess the qualities and experience we are looking for, we would very much like to hear from you.
