Key information

Somerset Council are looking for a Business Admin apprentice to join their Resourcing Team and work specifically on the Early Careers Strategy, supporting the lead with all workstreams, including apprenticeships, graduate recruitment and work experience.

  • 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)
  • Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship with a local training provider.
  • Full time for 37 hours per week, 1 day per week will be for study outside of the office.
  • 24 month apprenticeship contract

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

Under supervision deliver entry level clerical and administrative support to the team / service as required including:

  • Liaise with various stakeholders; such as training providers to maintain accurate records relating to all initiatives of the Early Careers Strategy.
  • Update and maintain a variety of records and filing systems in support of the work of the team. Use computerised systems to input and extract data.
  • Assist in report writing to showcase the work of the team to senior colleagues. Could involve attendance meetings.
  • Work with colleagues across HROD to design development sessions for our Young Employees’ Network.
  • Support the Early Careers Officer with event organisation; including creating attendance lists, agenda’s and supporting documents.

Works with senior members of staff to influence workforce planning; assisting teams in recruiting Young People into the workforce;

  • Designing internal and external communications to advertise development opportunities or job vacancies.
  • Support with the organisation of work experience opportunities; liaising with colleagues across the organisation and local schools.
  • Support with the organisation of the annual graduate programme; shortlisting candidates against set criteria.

You will be supported by your Line manager and other colleagues in the HR&OD Service. You will have contact with a variety of individuals within the Council.

You will undertake a Level 3 Business Administration, 24 month, apprenticeship with a local training provider. As part of this programme, 1 day per week will be for study outside of the office.

Essential qualifications

  • Maths and English GCSE grade 4/C or higher.

Future prospects

Apprentices will have the opportunity to apply for various positions on completion of the apprenticeship or will be supported to progress into similar positions with other employers.
