  • This is a part-time permanent post working 22.2 hours per week across several days to suit the postholder.
  • 25 days’ annual leave (pro rata).

The Business Support Assistant is a new role, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund providing administrative support to the Green Estates team at Somerset Council, who work to look after and protect Somerset Council’s country parks, nature reserves and other special wildlife sites.

This role involves a variety of tasks including managing correspondence and maintaining records as well as supporting the Green Estates Manager and Visitor Services Manager in the set-up of the new Ham Hill Visitor Centre.

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the natural environment and experience of visitors to our green spaces – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Setting up new suppliers in line with Somerset Council’s financial regulations.
  • Raising purchase orders and invoices to support the work of the Green Estates team.
  • Assisting with public and supplier enquiries relating to the Green Estates team and the Ham Hill Visitor Centre.
  • Using your initiative to improve communications and recording of data for the Green Estates team.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

  • Proven excellent experience of communication with internal and external customers.
  • Sound working knowledge of IT systems including Microsoft 365.
  • Experience of working in an administrative role within a team.
  • Excellent organisation skills.
