What will I be doing?
As a multi-skilled Carpenter, you will be working for the authorities Building Maintenance (Fabric) division operating within the Property Maintenance Hard FM Team. Which is part of Somerset Councils Regulatory & Operational Service. Who are responsible for delivering high quality building maintenance services both planned and reactive across the corporate property portfolio.
The role requires a comprehensive knowledge and a diverse range of skills. Applicants should possess proficiency and certification in carpentry, using transferrable skills in associated trades such as basic plumbing, tiling, decorating, patch-plastering, glazing, aluminium/UPVC window repairs and installs, and encompasses a diverse and rewarding working routine, with great benefits.
You will join a team of highly qualified and experienced Electricians, Plumbers, Heating engineers, multi skilled building tradespersons, HVAC Engineers that are supported by an administrative Helpdesk team and managerial staff. Working to maintain the authority’s corporate property estate keeping buildings in a compliant and safe condition for our customers and end/service users here in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Responding to both planned and reactive maintenance repair requests against set KPI’s
- Plan workload effectively and efficiently whilst prioritising the most urgent works
- Will participate in an emergency out of hours call out roster
- Management of assigned tasks from start to completion
- Source parts and materials from current supply chain
- Liaising with key stakeholders to plan and organise work
- Comply with industry regulations and H&S legislation
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

- Holds a relevant trade related City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 or equivalent
- Previous experience working in a Facility Management (Hard FM) role
- A good understanding of IT programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Teams etc and Android device OS,
- Previous experience with using CAFM systems
- Full UK driving license, or the means to travel across the County including areas not covered by public transport.
- Strong organisation & communication skills both written and verbal
- Forward thinking and initiative with excellent problem-solving skills
- Be able to work efficiently both independently and as a team
