Become a Church of England Diocesan Representative on the Children and Families Scrutiny Committee

Are you passionate about improving services for children and families in Somerset? Do you want to make a difference in your community? We’re looking for volunteer representatives to join our Children and Families Scrutiny Committee

We currently have 1 vacancy for a Church of England Diocesan Representative

What You’ll Receive:

  • £1000 per year as an allowance
  • Reimbursement for relevant travel expenses
  • Support and training to help you succeed in the role

What will I be doing?

As a co-opted member with voting rights on education matters, you will:

  • Represent the views and concerns of the church
  • Attend and contribute to Committee meetings (held approximately every five weeks, usually in Taunton, with virtual attendance available*)
  • Participate in task and finish groups
  • Liaise with fellow representatives and officers
  • Share updates and decisions with your church community
  • Uphold the standards and procedures set out in our constitution

*Please note: voting is only permitted when attending meetings in person.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Live in the Somerset Council area
  • Be ordained clergy or a trained lay person such as Reader, Churchwarden, or other lay minister.
  • Not be an elected member of Somerset Council
  • Have no personal or business relationships with elected members
  • Be interested in public services and committed to improving outcomes for children and families
