What will I be doing?

Timberscombe First School is a small, nurturing rural school where relationships matter and every child is truly known. Set within the heart of Exmoor National Park, our school benefits from a rich natural environment and strong community connections, helping us provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences for all children.

As part of this role, there will be opportunities to contribute to wider school improvement, curriculum development and leadership across the school and Federation. We are committed to developing future leaders and can offer high-quality professional development, coaching and support, including NPQ opportunities and leadership CPD pathways.

This role is based within our EYFS and KS1 cohort.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

Timberscombe First School, part of the Moorland Federation, is seeking an ambitious, reflective and compassionate teacher to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher with existing leadership experience, or someone ready to take the next step in their professional journey within educational leadership.

We also warmly welcome applications from strong classroom practitioners who are passionate about teaching and inclusive practice, but who may not currently be seeking additional leadership responsibilities.

We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about inclusive education, committed to ensuring every child thrives, and excited by the opportunity to develop their leadership skills within a supportive and forward-thinking Federation.

We’re looking for compassionate, creative and adaptable individuals who are:

  • A passionate and aspirational teacher who is committed to inclusive education and high expectations for all
  • An excellent classroom practitioner with the ability to inspire, motivate and nurture children to achieve their potential
  • Experienced in, or motivated to develop, adaptive teaching approaches to meet a wide range of learning needs, including SEND
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
  • Confident in creating an inclusive classroom environment where all children feel safe, valued and able to participate
  • Flexible and enthusiastic, with the ability to teach across different key stages within a small school setting
  • A collaborative team member who contributes positively to a shared ethos of inclusion and high expectations
  • Committed to ongoing professional development, particularly in inclusive and SEND practice
  • Committed to high standards and level of attainments

This role will suit you if you have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong understanding of effective primary teaching practice
  • Experience across primary age ranges, especially early years and key stage 1
  • Experience of, or a strong interest in, leadership responsibilities within a school setting
  • The ability to plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons that inspire curiosity and a love of learning
  • High expectations for all pupils and a commitment to helping every child achieve their potential
  • Experience of using assessment effectively to support pupil progress
  • A commitment to inclusive practice, supporting the needs of all learners including those with SEND
  • Excellent classroom management and the ability to create a positive, purposeful learning environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
  • A reflective approach to teaching and a genuine enthusiasm for ongoing professional development
  • An appreciation of the opportunities and rewards of working in a small, community-focused school

What is in it for me?

  • A welcoming, inclusive and highly supportive school community, including Governors who care about your success
  • The opportunity to work within a school recognised for strong inclusive and adaptive teaching practice
  • Leadership development opportunities tailored to your career aspirations
  • Access to NPQ qualifications, coaching and wider professional development pathways
  • Opportunities to contribute to wider Federation projects, collaboration and school improvement work
  • A leadership team that values innovation, wellbeing and professional growth
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a small school where relationships and community matter
  • A strong Federation-wide culture of collaboration, care and shared expertise

At Timberscombe First School and within the Moorland Federation, you will find a welcoming and supportive environment where your contribution is celebrated and your wellbeing is prioritised. We are committed to helping every member of staff flourish both personally and professionally.
