What will I be doing?

Role summary

  • To be the Council’s lead officer in delivering its strategic vision for Wellington to be an inclusive, safe and secure town where everybody is supportive of each other and offers particular care for the more vulnerable members of our community.
  • Work with the local community to support and encourage their involvement in local needs led service development. This to include establishment of a Community Development Plan that sets out how the Council’s strategic vision will be delivered and a Community Engagement Strategy that sets out relationships and mechanisms that support effective consultation and engagement with the local community to support effective involvement in the decision-making process for the development of council and partnership services.
  • To act as the Council’s representative on inter agency working groups such as Somerset Council’s One Team, the Cradle to Career initiative and Community Connect representing the Council’s views, providing information and undertaking supporting work to deliver their objectives.
  • Facilitate youth provision in the town working with young people to identify what is required and providers to deliver programmes throughout the town.
  • Identify themes and trends in the funding sector. Prepare funding bids throughout the year to secure funding for specific projects, working with community groups and local authorities. Monitoring the funds and ongoing allocation.
  • Promote the Council’s Grant Scheme and support groups in making bids for activities that support the Council’s overall objectives and provide advice to councillors on relevant applications.
  • Manage the Kings Arms Community Hub ensuring that appropriate systems are in place, including appropriate safeguarding measures, that the Hub is properly maintained and supporting agencies and groups using the hub.
  • To develop and implement an Emergency Plan for the town that sets out how the Council will respond to emergencies caused by extreme weather or other events and specifically how it will protect the more vulnerable members of our community.
  • To be the lead officer for the Community Committee of the Town Council attending meetings and providing reports to support decision making and developing an annual work plan.
  • To manage budgets for which the Committee or the post has delegated responsibility supported by the Democratic Services and Finance Manager.
  • To act as the Council’s safeguarding lead ensuring that effective and compliant policies, procedures and practice are appropriate and in place.
  • Leading on new projects as determined by the Council’s Community Committee
