Key information

  • This is a busy and highly rewarding role, handling high volume customer enquiries relating to the Blue Badge scheme provided by Somerset Council.
  • You will begin your role supporting Blue Badge and could at a later date be involved in one of our many other services eg Adult Social Care, Childrens Social Care, Council Tax, Waste, Highways, Registrations, Business Rates, Planning, or Housing
  • It offers hybrid working, with 1 day per week required in the office (once trained) and the remaining days can be home or office based as you wish.
  • Office days will be based in County Hall, Taunton
  • Full-time position (37hrs). Customers can contact us between 8.30-5pm Monday to Friday so, your work pattern will be within these hours.
  • Fixed term contract for 12 months
  • Regretfully, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. We are only able to proceed with candidates who already have the right to work in the UK without the need for visa sponsorship.

What will I be doing?

In this post, you will be providing ‘front door’ support for customers contacting the Council about the Blue Badge scheme, which offers parking concessions for those with disabilities. You will handle each enquiry with care and understanding, offering quality support and guidance before making decisions regarding eligibility, evidence and renewals. Upon receipt of eligibility evidence you will follow the eligibility process and where necessary consult with an Occupational Therapist for advice,

  • Managing the email inbox, responding to high volume daily contact
  • Making outgoing Call backs to provide support and guidance to those customers who require additional support, inclusive of completing applications over the phone for those who are unable to do so themselves.
  • Administration and data input
  • Manage the daily post, which will include reviewing and processing evidence, applications and payments

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:

  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Can handle multiple tasks and manage contact volumes effectively.
  • Have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Have experience in a customer service or data inputting environment
