  • Hybrid working, but with a work base location of Taunton Library. The post includes some county wide travel.
  • Hours of Work:18. 5 hours per week (with flexibility of how these hours are worked, agreed with the line manager).
  • Annual leave: 25 days or, with more than 5 years continuous service 28 day. This is inclusive of two statutory days. (annual leave stated is pro rata for part time hours). The annual leave year starts on 1st April.

What will I be doing?

This is an exciting opportunity to work within Somerset Libraries Development Team. The Development Team plays a lead role in ensuring the library service continues to evolve and delivers a range of innovative and exciting activity. Responsibilities across the team include Stock, Digital, Health and Wellbeing, External Funding and Marketing.

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • The Data and Performance Officer has a key role in supporting the functions of the Development Team through providing regular reports, analysing local and county wide trends, combining library usage data with both geographic and demographic data and developing tools for staff at all levels to use to review and use data in a meaningful way.
  • The role has a range of regular reporting duties and in addition you will work with the wider team to support customer engagement, provide evidence for external funding bids, identify trends in key areas like stock issues or visitor counts, and review web and social media data to contribute to our digital marketing strategy.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:

  • Educational qualifications to at least NVQ3 standard/5 GCSEs including Maths and English at C/Level 4
  • You will have good working knowledge of the use of IT systems to process data and extract information, including excellent knowledge of Excel. You may have some experience of specialist business intelligence software like Power BI or be willing to learn.
  • You will be able to identify links and patterns between data sets and confidently interpret and present data in creative and engaging ways.
  • You will be a confident communicator, self-motivated, a good team player with the ability to multitask.
  • A sound knowledge of the application and process of a specialist performance data. Strong data skills, able to analyse and use data to compile an evidence-based report.
  • Experience of collecting, compiling and reporting performance data, with accompanying guidance documents for staff training.
  • IT skills and knowledge of IT applications with the ability to pass skills on to others.
