We are Young Somerset, the county’s biggest youth work charity – and we’ve got one big mission: putting young people first.
We believe in inspiring, collaborating, and going further to create brighter futures for young people across Somerset. Whether it’s through youth work, wellbeing support, or targeted youth support – we’re here to make Somerset a place where every young person can thrive.
Now, we’re on the lookout for a Finance Manager who’s not afraid to crunch the numbers and make a difference.
What will I be doing?
If you love spreadsheets and stories – this could be your perfect mix.
You’ll be the financial heartbeat of Young Somerset, helping us make smart, sustainable choices that let us grow our impact.
Working hand-in-hand with our Head of Finance, you’ll lead a small but mighty finance team that keeps our charity ticking – from big-picture strategy to the tiny details that matter.
You’ll bring the insight, the structure, and the spark that help us make every penny count for young people.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading and supporting an awesome finance team, helping them grow and shine.
- Guiding managers through budgets, forecasts, and financial planning with clarity (and maybe even enthusiasm!).
- Making sense of the numbers – turning data into decisions that help us go further for young people.
- Ensuring we’re compliant, confident, and ready for whatever the audit throws our way.
- Working with project teams to bring financial know-how to new and exciting initiatives.
- Keeping our systems running smoothly and spotting smarter, slicker ways to do things.
- Championing best practice in finance across the organisation – and having fun while you do it!
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
You’re not just a Finance Manager – you’re someone who wants their work to mean something.
You’ll bring:
- Solid experience in financial management or a similar role.
- A head for strategy and an eye for detail.
- A good grasp of financial frameworks, compliance, and reporting.
- Confidence using Xero and Office 365 (bonus points if you can make a pivot table sing).
- The ability to explain complex stuff simply – and with patience and humour.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people through your work.
Bonus skills:
- A professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA).
- Experience working in the charity, youth, or wellbeing sectors.
What is in it for me?
Why You’ll Love It Here
At Young Somerset, we do finance with purpose. You’ll be part of a friendly, passionate team who believe in what they do — and who’ll have your back every step of the way.
Here’s what’s on offer:
- 27 days holiday + bank holidays (rising to 32 after 5 years, pro rata).
- Flexible hours and hybrid working — we trust you to work where you’re most effective.
- Term-time options available (because work-life balance matters).
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- A warm, values-driven culture where people and purpose come first.
Come and do your best work.
