Looking to kick-start your career in project management while making a real difference to communities across Somerset?

This is an exciting opportunity to join Somerset Council’s Flood Resilience Programme Team and gain hands-on experience supporting a high-profile, multi-agency programme focused on reducing flood risk and building long-term resilience.

You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, developing practical skills in project delivery, stakeholder engagement, data analysis and programme coordination. You’ll be involved in meaningful work from day one, helping to shape projects that support communities, the environment and Somerset’s future resilience, while receiving the support and experience needed to build a successful career.

What will I be doing?

As a Project Management Graduate, you’ll support the delivery of a major two-year programme involving a wide range of partners and stakeholders. You’ll use analytical thinking and data-driven insights to help identify needs, opportunities and priorities, while supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of projects that contribute to Somerset’s flood and coastal resilience objectives.

How You’ll Make a Difference

  • Support the planning, coordination and delivery of projects across the Flood Resilience Programme.
  • Analyse and interpret GIS mapping, environmental records and other data sources to inform decision-making.
  • Work with colleagues, communities and partner organisations to gather information and support programme activity.
  • Assist with monitoring project performance, milestones, risks and outcomes.
  • Produce reports, presentations and project documentation to support stakeholders and programme governance.
  • Help identify opportunities that strengthen Somerset’s approach to flood and coastal resilience.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification, with a classification of at least 2:2 (obtained within the last 3 years).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and information.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work with a range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to work independently, use initiative and contribute effectively as part of a team.
  • Good digital and IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications.
