What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. As a Health and Safety Officer and CDM Adviser you will serve as the lead adviser on health and safety matters to the Service Director and Senior Managers within the Infrastructure and Transport Directorate. This role involves managing health and safety initiatives, promoting food practice and influencing others to adopt a strong health and safety culture.

Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, organisational policy and professional codes of conduct.
  • Championing health, safety and wellbeing withing the directorate to promote a positive health and safety culture.
  • Conducting health and safety audits to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Supporting activity associated with Employers Liability and Public Liability claims.
  • Managing approved budgets for health and safety improvements.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

  • Level 2 qualification or equivalent to 5 GCSE’s including Maths and English at Grade 9-4 (A-C).
  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent to 3 A Levels.
  • Level 5 qualification or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • A proficiency in using health and safety management software and tools.
  • Previous experience in a health and safety advisory roles within a complex organisation and in managing health and safety audits and inspections.
  • A thorough understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and in-depth knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
