What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of People in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Carrying out routine preventative maintenance on HVAC systems
  • Attending to reactive repairs
  • Working alongside other mechanical and electrical trades
  • Taking part in the out-of-hours emergency Rota

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:

  • Act as Authorising Engineer for the Council’s trade accreditations (Refcom).
  • Check and sign-off all statutory certifications, addressing inaccuracies or additional required works.
  • Maintain an accurate digital archive of certifications by coordinating with support staff.
  • Provide technical guidance within your area of expertise.
  • Achieve high first-time fix rates with appropriate repairs, ensuring high quality using correct materials and skills.
  • Timely manage allocated planned preventative maintenance (PPM) works to meet statutory and operational compliance targets.
  • Contribute to reducing Corporate Property maintenance costs.
  • Work within the Property Maintenance Group to identify and implement service improvements.
  • Conduct technical reviews and make recommendations related to lifecycle estimates.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure correct and fit-for-purpose materials for works.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager, M&E Works Manager, project leads, sub-contractors, and suppliers on maintenance and small projects.
  • Participate in a rota for out-of-hours call-outs, ensuring safe and suitable repairs.
  • Work independently using technology to deliver the Council’s maintenance service.
  • Develop and implement efficient work programming, scheduling, and use of hand-held mobile devices to ensure timely completion and adherence to safety and quality standards. This includes utilising the CAFAM system (Civica).
  • Participate in toolbox talks.
  • Stay updated on best practices in the sector and facilitate necessary changes and training.
  • Conduct condition surveys and produce specifications and detailed work schedules.
  • Promote and uphold council policies on equality, diversity, inclusion, health, safety, and wellbeing.
