An exciting opportunity for a Learning and Development (L&D) Advisor has arisen at SW Councils, come and join our team. You will be joining a proactive team of professionals committed to supporting local authorities and other public and not-for-profit organisations.

As a small organisation delivering a wide range of work there are plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and your career. This role will particularly support a range of L&D functions including apprenticeship End-Point Assessment (EPA).
Our office base is in Taunton, Somerset. Given the broad range of responsibilities of this role, the expectation is that this post will spend the majority of their time in the office. However, we offer some flexibility through hybrid working.

About South West Councils

South West Councils is a small team of 30 supporting the work of all 29 local authorities across the South West and 100+ Associate members (such as police, fire & rescue services, national parks, schools and parish and town councils). We support local authorities in information sharing and lobbying on behalf of the South West to try and get a better deal for the region. We also support learning and development activity and provide specialist HR advice. Work at South West Councils is full of variety but also with the opportunity to focus on specific work areas.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Basic knowledge of adult learning theories, instructional design and learning technologies
  • Basic understanding of how L&D aligns with organisational goals and contributes to workforce development
  • Awareness of quality assurance processes in the context of regulated qualifications, particularly in relation to Ofqual
  • Strong team player with the ability to build positive customer-focused relationships
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and capable of managing multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Eager to learn, open to feedback and committed to personal and professional growth (for self and others)
  • Excellent communications skills (oral and written) with attention to detail and proficient in IT, including drafting social media content and promotional materials
  • Able to handle confidential information in line with GDPR and other legislation
  • Demonstrates professionalism and integrity, setting a positive example
