Somerset Council have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Employee Relations team, supporting managers within the Social Landlord Housing Service.

You’ll be part of a great team within the HR and OD Service that values equality, wellbeing, and continuous improvement—supporting the workforce to make a real difference in the community we serve.

  • Your work base be County Hall, Taunton with the opportunity to work flexibly in line with the demands of the role.
  • 30 days annual leave, plus bank holidays.
  • Permanent for 37 hours per week.

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that.

We’re looking for a dynamic People Manager to advise and support line managers across the Social Landlord Housing Service.

You will:

  • undertake various tasks including providing expert guidance throughout the employee lifecycle—from recruitment and workforce planning to absence and performance management.
  • coach managers, ensure compliance with employment legislation, support diversity and inclusion, and work with managers with the job evaluation process.
  • develop and maintain a variety of trackers to support including the recruitment tracker for all vacancies in the HRA.
  • provide support to the recruitment process which could include supporting at interviews.

Your ability to influence and build strong relationships, alongside excellent organisational skills, IT skills and working proactively, will be key to success in this role.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be.

You will have:

  • Proven experience of working in partnership with managers to deliver on key people projects.
  • Experience in supporting line managers with employment matters.
  • Experience of supporting implementation of change programmes across the employee lifecycle.
  • Experience of coaching, influencing, and building strong working relationships with managers.
  • Experience in supporting recruitment activities.
  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent or relevant experience to demonstrate level of competence.
