This is a permanent, full-time role working 37 hours a week.

28 days of annual leave (additional to bank holidays).

What will I be doing?

You’ll be playing a pivotal role in providing essential front line and operational support to our Corporate Property Maintenance function.

You’ll be helping to meet the authorities core objectives by ensuring that buildings remain fully functional and operational, maintaining them to a safe and compliant standard for our customers and service users.

This will be achieved by carrying out general maintenance activities, including planned preventative maintenance as well as urgent reactive callouts. You will make initial technical assessments and implement effective solutions, complying with current regulations. You will produce high first-time fix rates through determination and deployment of the correct repair.

What you’ll do – key responsibilities:

  • Respond to reactive repair requests, make a technical assessment of the immediate situation, and determine the most suitable repair.
  • Produce high first-time hit rates through determination and deployment of the correct repair.
  • Assess Health and Safety, cost, time and suitability of repair for the required situation.
  • Manage personal safety and safety of others in accordance with Somerset Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
  • Work in challenging environments to deliver maintenance works, such as working at heights, inclement weather, or working with substances hazardous to health.
  • Undertake technical reviews and produce reports which may include recommendations for time and cost estimates. Contribute towards the reducing of maintenance costs.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

Essential

  • Proven knowledge of current industry legislation and guidance relating to required disciplines.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of current H&S legislation and guidance.
  • Asbestos awareness.
  • 3+ years’ experience served in building trades.
  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 1 in Plumbing.
  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing & Heating.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Ability to speak fluent English as stated in Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016).
  • Advanced plumbing skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and work against tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrable problem-solving skills.
  • Positive and approachable with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working at height.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a Facilities Maintenance (FS) and/or Facilities Maintenance (FM) environment.
  • Experience working with electronic mobile devices that integrate with CAFM (computer aided facility management) systems.
  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 – Advanced Carpentry and Joinery.
  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 – Skilled Tradesperson.
  • IOSH, PASMA, or IPAF qualification.
  • Legionella awareness.
  • Carpentry, joinery or tiling skills.
