  • This permanent full time (37 hours per week) role is based at County Hall, Taunton. Hybrid working applies to this position, to be discussed at interview.
  • 28 days’ annual leave.
  • The Council is currently experiencing unprecedented and ongoing pressure to balance its finances as demand for its services increases and its income does not meet service demand. The Property service is in the spotlight as one department capable of responding to the pressure the Council faces by delivering a mix of asset disposals, asset devolution, asset rationalisation or other property related solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in scoping and delivering a variety of property solutions and projects for the Council and act as a department interface with services and partners.

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that.

  • Working within the Property Rationalisation team who are responsible for identifying, evaluating options and coordinating a variety of operational and transformational projects which help the Council deliver its property services in a more effective and efficient way.
  • The projects usually involve the council’s land or buildings but can vary greatly: from construction or remodelling improvement projects to rationalising current operational sites to reduce their operating costs or to generate income opportunities, closing down sites and buildings ready to transfer these to another owner/operator, to enabling teams and services to relocate to different premises.
  • Key to all of the activities is an understanding and appreciation of the importance of change management.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

  • Have A level qualification/s or relevant / related equivalent higher level qualifications (e.g. certificate in Asset or Business Management) or equivalent experience.
  • You will have and demonstrate proven project management skills and have experience in managing change projects, if not specifically ones with a property element,
  • You will have led and facilitated small groups to discuss and evaluate complex matters and have some experience in managing divergences of opinion

Can demonstrate confidence to work on your own, as well as independently and as part of a team.
