About South West Councils

As a regional public sector organisation, South West Councils supports not only local authorities, but also police, fire & rescue services, national parks, 90 town/parish councils and other associate organisations.

What will I be doing?

This is a fantastic opportunity to grow your expertise further and to support organisations across the region.

The South West Councils HR service consists of a small, highly supportive team. We are looking for a proficient HR Advisor to join as one of our experts.

The successful candidate will have a varied workload. This will range from responding to day-to-day employment enquires to conducting complex and/or potentially politically sensitive investigations. Amongst other things, you will also advise at grievance/disciplinary/appeal hearings and deliver employment-related training.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We are looking for someone who has experience of providing employment advice to managers and customers, has excellent presentation and negotiating skills, and is capable of working on their own initiative. If you would like the opportunity to use your experience to provide advice and consultancy support to a wide variety of different organisations who need our assistance in addressing employment issues, this job is for you!

What is in it for me?

We offer a range of benefits, including access to the Local Government Pension Scheme and opportunities for professional development within the organisation. Team members have recently been supported to become mediators and coaches. We are always looking to expand our skill base and therefore the services we can offer our members.

We offer hybrid working and a generous flexi-time scheme. Although a lot of our work is now delivered remotely, there is increasingly a need to meet our customers and deliver face to face.

South West Councils values a diverse workforce and is supportive of the needs of all applicants and employees. Applications from people wishing to request a flexible working pattern including part-time hours are welcome.
