What will I be doing?

St George’s Catholic School is seeking to appoint a Caretaker to join our supportive staff community in our primary school setting.
Working Pattern
This role operates on a flexible split-shift pattern to suit the operational needs of the school:
- Morning: Opening the school, site checks and morning duties (typically 7am-9:30 am)
- Late Afternoon: Securing the premises, supporting lettings and evening duties (typically 2:30pm-6pm, with lettings as required)
- Time off between shifts provides excellent work-life balance and the opportunity to pursue other commitments
Exact hours are negotiable depending on school needs and candidate availability.
Job share arrangements welcomed.
Early morning site support is already in place to ensure you are part of a supportive team.
About the role: You will play a key part in ensuring our school is safe, secure and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors. Duties include site security, cleaning, maintenance, supporting lettings and helping with the day-to-day running of our facilities (including our onsite pool, with training and support provided). You’ll work closely with the school team and have the chance to develop your skills further.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Site keyholder, ensuring that the school is secure at all times
- Maintaining the school grounds, including routine inspections to identify issues, repairs, painting and landscaping
- Carry out general cleaning duties and oversee the work of the cleaning staff
- Coordinating with outside contractors for repairs and maintenance
- Ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students and staff
- Management of waste/refuse on site
- Maintain safe condition of areas of limited access (boiler and store rooms)
- Operate within the constraints of Health & Safety and COSHH regulations
- Stock control of cleaning supplies
- Service any evening/weekend lettings
- Additional duties as assigned by the headteacher or other staff members
