What will I be doing?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced SENDCo to join our two small and welcoming rural primary schools in Devon. This is a unique opportunity to work one day per week across Burlescombe C of E Primary School and Webbers C of E Primary School, supporting our commitment to ensuring that every child is fully included, valued and enabled to achieve their potential.
The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for special educational needs and disabilities across both schools, working closely with staff, families and external agencies to ensure that children receive the support they need to succeed both academically and personally. You will oversee SEND provision, coordinate statutory processes and contribute to the ongoing development of inclusive practice within our school communities.
This is an especially exciting time to join us. The schools will shortly be transferring to The Academies for Character and Excellence (ACE), and this recruitment is being undertaken in partnership with Alumnis. This transition brings a wealth of opportunity. ACE is deeply committed to providing an exceptional education for every child, underpinned by a strong belief in equity, collaboration and uncompromising excellence. Their approach extends beyond the classroom, placing a real emphasis on character education, personal development and ensuring that every pupil and every member of staff is supported to thrive.
ACE is passionate about delivering a rich and innovative curriculum and fostering a highly collaborative way of working. Through its strong network of schools and professional communities, staff are given genuine opportunities to develop, share expertise and grow within their profession. A commitment to equity ensures that every child, and every member of staff, has access to meaningful opportunities, with a clear focus on tackling disadvantage and providing high-quality professional learning.
Both schools provide nurturing environments where every child is known, valued and encouraged to achieve their best. Burlescombe School is organised into two mixed-age classes spanning Reception to Year 6, while Webbers School has three classes. The small-school environment is a real strength, enabling staff to build strong relationships with pupils and families and provide highly personalised support.
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We are looking for someone who has experience of leading SEND provision within a primary setting and who either holds, or is willing to work towards, the National Award for SEN Coordination. The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator, an effective team player and someone who is passionate about securing the very best outcomes for children with additional needs. The ability to work collaboratively across two small schools and build strong relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues is essential
What is in it for me?
In return, we can offer two friendly and supportive school communities with dedicated staff teams, enthusiastic children and a strong commitment to inclusion and wellbeing. You will join a warm, caring and ambitious team and, through ACE, have access to high-quality professional development, collaboration across a wider family of schools and opportunities to continue developing your expertise and career.
DBS check
The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
