Key information

An exciting maternity cover opportunity, for a Senior Business Unit Officer, has arisen within the Somerset Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP) Business Unit. You will be joining a small, friendly Business Unit which supports the Somerset Safeguarding Children Partnership to fulfil its statutory duties.

The SSCP is a partnership led by Somerset Council, Somerset ICB and Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

  • Your work base be County Hall, Taunton with the opportunity to work flexibly in line with the demands of the role.
  • 30 days annual leave, plus bank holidays
  • fixed term contract for 6 months, starting in June 2026.

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that.

You will be the main point of contact and the project support for local projects relating to safeguarding children.

Your day to day work will include:

  • Providing administrative support for Partnership work, including managing the mailbox, supporting with agendas and minuting.
  • Project support work for various children’s safeguarding projects, including the Somerset Trauma Informed network
  • Manage updates to the SSCP website and the Partnership newsletter.
  • Enabling effective multi-agency communication and partnership work.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We would like to hear from candidates who have strong administrative skills and can act as the first point of contact for the SSCP Business Unit. You’ll come with experience of an administrative and/or project background and have the personal skills to develop and enhance the projects we undertake to be the best they can be. You will be highly organised, proactive and able work on your own initiative, a confident communicator, with strong written skills. In addition, you will have a background in establishing strong and trusted professional relationships.
