What will I be doing?

The Council requires a wide-ranging portfolio of properties to deliver services for the people of Somerset including leisure centres, depots, schools, offices and commercial estates and you’ll take on a key role to manage, deliver and supervise a range of complex and significant £multi-million construction projects, delivering these to achieve the strategic goals of the council.

We are looking for an experienced and professional Senior Project Manager to retain sole responsibility for the delivery of some of the department’s largest construction schemes. They will need to ensure that financial risks are managed effectively and that projects are delivered on time and to agreed quality and design standards. The appointed person will provide strong technical and commercial oversight, whilst managing a wide range of stakeholder relationships, leading projects from RIBA stages 2 – 6.

The role will require representing the Strategic Asset Management department and working with internal client departments, giving professional advice and managing external consultants where appointed.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

  • A strong up to date knowledge of project management in a construction environment, including key construction processes.
  • A relevant degree and / or professional level qualification in project management and / or equivalent experience.
  • The confidence to direct the training and development of junior staff in the Construction Project Management team, providing coaching, mentoring and professional leadership support as required on behalf of the Principal Construction Project Manager.
  • The ability to manage multiple stakeholders, prior experience of working in a Local Government or Public Sector environment would also be useful.
  • The ability to work at pace, while managing workloads efficiently and effectively to achieve results.
  • An attention to detail for the maintenance of project files and regular reporting of financial and programme data.
