What will I be doing?

You will join the Estates Operations Team at Somerset Council responsible for the managing a diverse property portfolio of circa 4,000 assets, including 1,300 buildings and 2,300 parcels of land. The Council’s property assets deliver a wide range of services for the people of Somerset including leisure facilities, depots, libraries and corporate offices. The team also manage cultural and heritage assets, commercial properties and agricultural holdings. You’ll be a key part of the team managing this estate with your own diverse caseload and having responsibility for the day-to-day management of your portfolio.

Using your subject expertise, you’ll provide professional real estate advice to senior managers and service areas. You’ll be coordinating multiple stakeholders, clients and internal professionals and will need to communicate effectively with each. You will also use negotiation skills to ensure best value is achieved for the Council.

The role involves regular travel to a variety of sites around Somerset, including for inspections and meetings, some of which may be in rural areas.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But this role requires:

  • MRICS or AssocRICS qualification.
  • Experience of managing wide ranging caseloads, including supervision of staff
  • Experience of advising stakeholders and clients on complex/specialist issues relating to role
  • Comprehensive knowledge of statutory regulations relating to service area and related functions
  • Previous experience in a Local Government/Public Sector role would be desirable.
