  • This role is based at County Hall, Taunton 1 day a week in the office, 4 days working from home. At times occasionally working from other Council Offices.
  • 30 days’ annual leave (in addition to bank holidays).
  • The contract offered is permanent and full-time (37 hours per week).

What will I be doing?

We are looking for a Senior Systems Support Officer to lead and innovate in our Children’s Services practice support and systems development (PSSD) team. This is your chance to combine technical expertise with leadership skills to support vital Children’s Social Care Systems and ensuring compliance with data protection standards.

Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Leading a dedicated team providing expert support for CSC systems across Somerset Council and partner agencies e.g. LCS, EHM, and LIFT.
  • Driving improvements in system processes and ensure compliance with data protection standards.
  • Acting as Project Manager for system upgrades and enhancements, whilst utilising troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborating with operational and business operations managers and suppliers to deliver effective solutions.
  • Utilising troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and knowledge of GDPR.
  • Experience of managing priorities and resolving complex issues.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • A logical, detail-oriented approach and willingness to learn new systems.
  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent); IT qualifications desirable.
