About the job
Key information
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children, young people, and their families?
Do you thrive on building meaningful connections, working both independently and as part of a supportive team?
We’re looking for a dynamic, motivated individual who brings energy, empathy, and a commitment to promoting mental health and wellbeing. If you’re a natural multi-tasker with at least two years’ experience working directly with children and young people, we’d love to hear from you.
Young Somerset is seeking to recruit Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners to start in September 2025.
Join Our Growing Mental Health and Wellbeing Team at Young Somerset
At Young Somerset, we value our people. We champion a culture of support, celebrate best practice, and provide clear pathways for development and progression. As a trainee practitioner, you’ll be joining a diverse and compassionate team delivering both clinical and non-clinical support to children, young people, and families across Somerset.
You’ll collaborate with schools, a wide range of partners, ensuring mental health services are accessible, inclusive, and impactful.
About the Role
- As a Trainee EMHP, you will be trained to deliver low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (LI-CBT) to children, young people, and families, through both individual and group sessions in schools across Somerset.
- You’ll play a key role in promoting the Whole School Approach to mental health, helping schools embed a culture of wellbeing.
- This role is part of a collaborative partnership with Somerset Foundation Trust CAMHS and is supported by Somerset Council’s Educational Psychology Service.
Training and Study
- You will undertake a nationally recognised training programme aligned with the National Low Intensity Curriculum.
- The academic component includes a mix of taught and self-study days (delivered in a hybrid model from either Exeter or Bristol).
- When not studying, you’ll be actively applying your new skills in the field, contributing directly to our service delivery.
Why Join Us?

We are currently operating through a blend of digital and face to face work. The role may also require some countywide travel.
