What will I be doing?

University Centre Somerset (UCS) is a high-quality Centre of Higher Education, part of UCS College Group.  UCS and the College have an excellent record for the delivery of HE programmes working with several valued partner Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). UCS is at an exciting and pivotal point in its future as we move towards our strategic priority of transforming Somerset through University Education and our application for Degree Awarding Powers (DAPs).

The realising of the vision for UCS has started with UCS and the College becoming the first FE college to gain the consent of both the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and its university partner, University of the West of England (UWE) to deliver nursing degrees. The College was also the first FE College to be invited and accepted into the Council of Deans of Health as an Associate Member and now sits alongside university healthcare faculties at the heart of policy and political debate.  In addition, UCS College Group has become the Further Education representative on NHS England’s Southwest Region Nursing and Midwifery Supply Board, actively contributing to removing barriers to health careers. Most recently UCS College Group (formerly BTC) was awarded the Queens Anniversary Prize for the collaborative work with the NHS and UWE to create this groundbreaking approach. As well as nursing, UCS also has a key role in the delivery of Degree Apprenticeships across the Nuclear sector through the National College for Nuclear (NCfN), also in association with our university partner UWE. With several exciting direct entry and higher/degree apprenticeship pathways currently in development and pipelined for development in other allied health professions and other sectors, it truly is an exciting time to join our team at UCS.

The UCS HE Admissions Compliance Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all admissions processes within the institution adhere to relevant regulatory, statutory, and institutional requirements. This role will maintain compliance with frameworks such as the Office for Students (OfS), Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), and UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), safeguarding the institution against regulatory risk and supporting audit readiness.

The postholder will act as a key point of assurance for admissions integrity, ensuring transparency, fairness, and accuracy in applicant decision-making, working closely with UCS Registrar. They will monitor regulatory changes, update policies and procedures, and provide guidance to colleagues to ensure compliance is embedded across all admissions activities. In addition, the role will contribute to process improvement and data analysis, using admissions data to inform strategic planning and enhance applicant experience.

This position supports the institution’s ambition to grow its higher education provision while maintaining the highest standards of governance and accountability. The role is critical in mitigating risk, protecting institutional reputation, and ensuring that admissions systems are robust, efficient, and aligned with sector best practice.
