Hours: Part-time, 4–5 mornings per week (08:30 – 12:30)

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and self-motivated Teacher to join our teaching team within our unique Independent Day School.

The Role:
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic English and Maths teacher to deliver engaging and rigorous lessons to pupils initially in Years 5–6. The successful candidate will work mornings only, with the opportunity to supplement earnings through supply cover and after school tutoring if they would like to. This role is ideal for someone seeking part-time work with potential to grow into a full-time position as the school expands from September 2026.
What will I be doing?
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver high-quality English and Maths lessons to Years 5–6.
Assess and monitor pupil progress, providing constructive feedback.
Pastoral Care: Provide pastoral support, creating a safe and positive learning environment.
Parental Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents, providing regular updates on their child’s progress and well-being.
School Community: Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and the broader school community.
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
Qualifications and Experience:
Compulsory Requirements:
Qualified teacher status (QTS or equivalent).
Proven experience teaching English and Maths up to at least Year 6.
Strong understanding of the KS2 curriculum.
Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
Commitment to high standards and pupil achievement.
Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and students.
Adaptability: Flexible and willing to contribute to various aspects of school life. You will be expected to run one after school club each week and attend various FOCs (Friends of Chard School) events outside of the working work (around 4-5 each year).
Desirable Requirements:
Experience teaching up to Year 8.
Experience working in a preparatory or independent school setting.
Ability to offer subject tutoring or extra-curricular activities.
