Permanent Role

 Start date: January 2026

TDPC is one of four Pupil Referral Units commissioned by Somerset Council and Somerset schools, covering Taunton, Wellington and Wiveliscombe.  We work alongside students (5-16 years) in several ways: those who have an EHCP naming us as their school; students with medical needs that inhibits their access to mainstream settings; those who have been permanently excluded from their mainstream school and in partnership with schools through our Centres and in Outreach.

What will I be doing?

We are looking to appoint a Welfare & Attendance Lead to drive the work of our Safeguarding Team under the direction of the Designated Safeguarding Lead and direct our Attendance Strategy.  This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to take a lead role in the organisation, working in a supportive and effective team.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

  • Has an excellent working knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, welfare and attendance and how it applies in a school context
  • Has the ability to build trusting relationships with young people and their families who may be hard to engage, and be professionally curious about their lived experiences
  • Has excellent organisational and time management skills coupled with experience of working with children and young people and their parents/carers
  • Is keen to develop in a leadership role and can motivate, support and direct the work of others
  • Is confident, resilient and dependable and is committed to high quality support for young people
  • Is organised and hard working – willing and able to go the extra mile.

DBS check

TDPC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; successful candidates will be required to demonstrate a high awareness of these areas and undergo an enhanced DBS check. We also conduct online checks of all applicants during the shortlisting process.
