What will I be doing?

“Stepping into the new Wellbeing Support Practitioner to EMHP pathway with Young Somerset has been an incredibly rewarding experience. From day one, I was given a warm welcome by my team and colleagues from across the organisation who have supported me as I developed my skills, built my confidence, and settled into this new and evolving role. The progression pathway feels clear and achievable, and I’ve been guided throughout my development. It’s a fantastic opportunity for anyone passionate about early intervention and making a real impact in young people’s lives.” Bianca, Pathway to Trainee EMHP.

Join Young Somerset – Put Young People First and Shape Their Future

Are you passionate about improving young people’s mental health? Want to make a real difference in Somerset’s schools and communities while building your career?

Young Somerset is looking for a Wellbeing Support Practitioner – a unique developmental role for those ready to take the first step toward becoming an Educational Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP).

This is your opportunity to support vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people through non-clinical, early-intervention mental health support—from drop-ins and groupwork to school workshops and 1:1 sessions.

What You’ll Do:

  • Be a welcoming first point of contact for young people, families and schools
  • Deliver impactful wellbeing activities and support CYP to build resilience and emotional literacy
  • Champion youth voice in shaping our mental health offer
  • Collaborate with schools, CAMHS and community services to provide holistic support
  • Learn, grow and prepare for EMHP training with structured CPD and shadowing

What is in it for me?

  • Hands-on experience supporting CYP across Somerset
  • Training in low-intensity CBT principles and preventative mental health work
  • A clear pathway into EMHP training programmes
  • A chance to join a passionate, values-led team making a real impact
  • Be part of Somerset’s leading youth charity.
  • Putting Young People First. Inspire. Collaborate. Go Further.
