Headteacher Job Summary
Walton Church of England Primary School (a local authority-maintained school) is seeking to appoint an inspirational and forward thinking Headteacher, on the retirement of the current headteacher, to build on its excellent reputation and lead it into the next stage of its development.
We are looking for an inspiring and visionary school leader who places the education and well-being of every child at the forefront of the school’s mission, ensuring that all the staff take the opportunity to enable each and every child to reach their full potential.
The school was rated Good at its last OFSTED inspection in October 2023 the report identifying, among many positive comments, “that Pupils are proud of their school. They show care and consideration for one another” and “The school has planned a broad and ambitious curriculum, pupils are positive about their learning.”
This is a full-time role that will require the headteacher to teach for at least 1 day per week.
What will I be doing?
As the headteacher you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the school. You will lead a team of professional and dedicated teachers, providing support and encouragement to all staff throughout the school. You will look to build upon the success of the school embracing its culture, ethos and values sharing a real enthusiasm for teaching and learning.
The successful candidate will:
- Have the energy, enthusiasm and clear vision to ensure the school’s future, building on and extending high standards for all pupils
- Lead teaching and learning to ensure pupil achievement and continually evaluate and improve approaches to teaching and learning
- Develop yourself and your team, maintaining a culture of high expectations of yourself and others
- Oversee the smooth day-to-day running of the school, ensuring efficient and effective management of resources
- Actively work with others and together with the Governing body provide sound financial planning
- Continue to ensure the school is at the heart of the local community
- Nurture the individuality of every child through the continued development of an ambitious, relevant and creative curriculum, enriched by a variety of extra-curricular activities
- Ensure the safety and welfare of all pupils, promoting a secure and nurturing school environment that celebrates diversity, inclusion and equality
- Work with the Governors on the further development of partnership[s] with other Primary Schools and keep abreast of developments relating to Multi-Academy Trusts
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
You should have:
- Significant leadership experience, preferably as a Head of School, or Deputy Headteacher, or Headteacher
- Qualified Teacher Status and a proven track record of effective teaching experience in a primary school setting
- A degree in education or equivalent qualification
- A deep understanding of current educational methods and practice and curriculum development
- Demonstrable ability to lead and inspire a team, fostering a positive and collaborative work culture
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
- A passion for education and a commitment to empowering pupils to reach their full potential
